Building the Team You Need
Jun 19, 2026Let's talk about your team and team development.
From a team perspective, one of the most important questions is: does your team have the capabilities, skills, motivation, knowledge, and passion to do what they need to do?

That's what team development is all about. I often talk about people being either developed, developing, or underdeveloped. What I can guarantee is that you want to create an environment where, hand on heart, everyone in your team is on a learning journey—continually upgrading who they are and how they operate.
The reality is that real estate is a highly competitive industry. When you're out there winning business and delivering exceptional value and service to your clients, you want complete confidence that your team has the skills, mindset, and knowledge to perform at their best and make a real difference.
So, where are the gaps in your team? And what does development look like?
There may be development priorities that apply across the entire team. Then, at an individual level, what does the development plan look like for each person? Whether they're in property management, marketing, operations, or sales, every team member should have a clear development journey. The earlier you can identify and close those gaps in the year, the sooner you'll benefit from the growth and capability you've invested in.
One of the questions I'm constantly asking with my clients is, "What does this team—and what does this individual—need now? And what are they going to need next?"
That's about preparing people for the next market, the next challenge, the next opportunity, and giving them the capabilities they need before they actually need them.
